It sounds like an own goal from your description, unless the ball was already going into the goal and was deflected.
But why even care about stats like that? Are parents really discussing that on the sideline? Who cares.

Because it wasn’t really a discussion about stats. It was more about discussing a situation in the game. It started out as a joke and then turned into a discussion because, like I said, a lot of us are still learning. Another situation that occurred that I had no idea was a rule was when our other goalie was penalized for scooping up a ball in his box that was kicked to him by one of his teammates. I had no idea he couldn’t do that. Live and learn.
