I'm in SF every few weeks for work and Chinatown in Chicago is nowhere near the size and hustle of SF. That said, some might find that refreshing.
Honestly, I don't go to Chicago's Chinatown all that much, unless I'm eating at Go 4 Food, but you can find plenty of shops and restaurants along Chinatown Square. Would assume your wife can find some knockoff items there.
