I was living in Sydney at the time, so it was about 10:30 at night when it all began. I had just gone to bed and fallen asleep. My wife was still awake and woke me up when the news broke about the first plane hitting. I just assumed it was a little Cessna and rolled over to go back to sleep. Then I hear my brother-in-law yelling and cussing in the living room; that is when the second plane had hit. So my arse was good and awake at this point. We had Fox News over there, and Sky News Australia picked up the CNN feed, so we were switching between the two. I called my folks in Louisiana and we talked for a bit as things occurred. I went back to bed at 3am after Bush gave his remarks at Barksdale AFB because I still had to leave for work at 6am. On the train into work, everyone had their nose in the newspapers and no one was saying a thing. Had the tv on all day at work. Co-workers kind of left me alone that day, being the only American in the place. I guess they didn't know what to do or say to me. My office block was in Bankstown, a predominantly Muslim suburb of Sydney. The streets were pretty empty for about a week after the attacks; I guess they were too afraid to be out in the open.
