Its September people if the coach wasnt already hired its because they are waiting for the end of the MLS season to name an active coach. I am an Atlanta fan I predict its Tata. Josef and Miggy will both be moving on and Tata has not extended his contract. I would bet a lot of $$$ that the coach will be a MLSer... Who do you got?

Or they’re waiting for Huddersfield to sack Wagner.

My money is on Gregg Berhalter. I think it will happen regardless of the messy Columbus situation, but the Crew potentially not playing in Columbus next year would also be a factor. I don’t think he would want to move to Austin with the team, should that happen. He has a good coaching record, and knows the national team well from his playing days.
Peter Vermes is qualified, but he just signed a 5-year extension there, and I doubt he leaves, even for the national team.
Maybe Oscar Pareja has an outside shot, but I doubt it. He’d be much better as a youth technical director instead of head coach, IMO. That’s where his talents really shine.
Greg Vanney is too inexperienced, and Toronto is badly regressing this season. Jesse Marsch will definitely be a top candidate for the 2022 cycle after his Bundesliga experience, but he’s off the table for this cycle. Arthur Blank isn’t letting Tata Martino leave Atlanta for anyone; if he was gonna leave, it would have been the Paraguay job.

Wynalda claimed on twitter last night that the top 3 choices are all Dutch

Dutch coaches? Would the salary/positon for the USMNT be attractive enough to pull a decent coach that is in the middle of the season away from Europe and if so why hasn't it happened now. Meola on Sirus FC insinuated that the new coach would probably be watching the next games in the stadium

I mean, they paid a lot of money for Klinnsman. It's not like it hasn't happened before.

As an FCD fan I don’t think Oscar Pareja is qualified. Especially after our collapse last season.

Earnie Stewart confirms that he has yet to interview candidates for the #USMNT head coach position, but expects to make a hire by the end of the year, and as early as November.

U.S. GM Earnie Stewart says ability to speak English is a requirement for the #usmnt coach, which would seem to rule out Atlanta United boss Tata Martino (although Martino speaks English better than he lets on).

I expect it to be a current MLS coach, but you never know, Earnie might surprise us with a Dutch coach. The Dutch learn English as a second language is school, so that shouldn’t be a problem for any Dutch candidates.
US Soccer fans need to be realistic about the type of coach we can attract given the current state of US Soccer. Our odds of landing a proven, top-level manager with extensive European experience are basically 0% right now. There’s always a chance, but don’t expect that. Those guys all have way better options.
More than likely, our next coach will be either an American or a young, ambitious European out to make a name for himself and potentially put his career at risk. That’s the caliber of job we are right now. The USSF can offer a ton of money, but there are many other factors that make such coaches hesitant to seek this job.
I expect Berhalter to be offered the job once the Crew’s season ends (probably in November) unless a big candidate steps up unexpectedly.

Tata listens to questions in English but answers in Spanish.... By November or December he could be answering in English...

Am I crazy for thinking this is completely wrong?
The only way for us to go is up. I find it hard to believe anyone aside from myself being able to frick it up more than Arena did there at the end.
If we have any success at all the manager will be praised.
We can pay top dollar and we have a talented group of youngsters coming up who are playing/moving to Europe. I feel like we are an attractive landing spot for any manager.
But maybe i’m delusional.

Oh, I share your optimism about our player pool. I think our last generation of veterans aged out at just the wrong time and some of our worst crops of youth prospects in the modern era of US Soccer were unable to pick up the slack. I think the failure last cycle makes a lot of people think our current crop of players is way more dire than it really is. These kids coming up seem like the strongest crops we’ve ever produced, and that is translating to recent success at the youth level.
I am bullish on our future, like you. I just don’t think a lot of the top coaches out there see it the same way we do. They likely perceive the USSF as a mess too big to tackle, even if we have some great young players. I don’t think many established managers for top European teams would leave those positions for an uncertain future.
I’m not getting my hopes up for an exciting hire. But who knows? Maybe Earnie finds an ambitious European manager unafraid of the task at hand and eager to prove himself.

I wouldn’t necessarily call myself bullish on our future, I just think that all you need to do to be successful here is best Mexico every other other time you play them, win one of two Gold Cups, qualify for the World Cup and not go 0-3.
If the next guy does that our fan base will be estatcic and full of optimism.
