You can find equally good food in both places.
yeah, the whole NY blowing away LA in food thing is overblown. Where NY really shines is the ultra swanky 2 and 3 star Michelin restaurants (Michelin doesn't rate in LA anymore, but when they did, there were no 3 star places). These aren't the types of restaurants your average Joe eats at. In terms of great everyday food, LA holds it's own against any city, mainly based on the strengths of popular ethnic cuisines.

NYC vs LA proper, NY wins for sure.
100%. LA proper is pretty much just Hollywood and downtown LA, which are both really underwhelming.

But NYC vs everything around LA, LA blows it away. Perfect weather every day. Mountains and beaches etc
in terms of livability, absolutely. the sheer VARIETY of things for LA residents to do throughout the year is second to none. For tourism, I'd still take NYC over the entire LA/OC metro area. I don't think anyone is missing out by not visiting LA, whereas every American needs to visit NYC once in their lifetime.

I agree. NY is a great city for tourists. I absolutely loved living in SoCal, but as a tourist city LA kind of sucks.
