The people that lived in West Feliciana and Pointe Coupee wanted it and advocated for a bridge to replace the ferry since the 1960s. Funding was secured in the 1980s, and construction didn't start until 2006, with the bridge opening some time in 2011.
It wasn't just a random outlay.

And it was all done with a 4 cent tax that address 9 other projects around the state that the voters and legislators voted on to accept.
