Why not? There is no real threat to Bama until the LSU game, which is game 9 of the season. He can play both until then and hope that either (a) Tagovailoa clearly separates himself from the back or (b) Hurts fixes the "problems" that caused him to be benched. Either way it's a win/win for Alabama. Worst case scenario is that Tagovailoa struggles early, but Bama has a backup that's more than capable of winning games. As long as someone establishes himself Saban doesn't really care who transfers at the end of the season.
