Yeah with a 12 day total trip I'd say something closer.

12 days may be doable.
Flew to Bangkok taking 1.5 days I believe, spent 3.5 days there. Flew to Siem Reap and spent 2 full days there. Flew to Phuket and took ferry to island. Spent 4 full days there. Flight back takes only one day as you gain a day crossing international date line.
We had a great time.
You can easily substitute Chiang Mai for Siem Reap, but everyone loves that place so you'd probably want more than 2 days there.
Lastly, I'm not above doing what I want to do. It's your honeymoon, your job, unless your presence is absolutely positively needed, like being lead counsel at trial, is not going to give a shite if it was 12 or 13 or 14 days. I don't buy the argument you will be needed any more over 48 hours. Another week? Sure.
