You don't have to be a graduate to be a "true fan" of the sports teams. I was a "true fan" when I was twelve. But somebody who lived on that campus and attended classes there and made dozens of life-long relationships there is likely to have emotional attachments to LSU that would be very difficult for you to truly understand. You have true fandom, he has something else that probably also includes true fandom and a lot more.

It's not just attending LSU, but any major school. I actually feel that I have more in common with a Florida or Auburn grad than an LSU T-Shirt fan.

I don't like hearing some arse yell at a 19 year old student who's playing HIS extracurricular sport, while taking 15 hours, spending time with his girlfriend, and doing random other stuff. I had a real problem sitting in class next to the kicker after a loss and having to see on his face the stress of what he's read online about his life.

Like the commercial said, "Most of them will be going pro in something other than sports." You probably don't get that if you never attended a major college - ANY college.
