Judge the program after this year, after this schedule. I’m giving Coach Orgeron no excuses, I’m just giving him this year!

If you are giving Orgeron no excuses, why mention the schedule?

The fact is, this schedule is no different than many of the schedules we've had over the last 10 years (except for last year) and is not going to be any different moving forward. In the coming years we have a UT home and home, FSU at a neutral site, and Clemson at a home and home. Bama is going to be bama as long as Saban is there, Auburn is always going to be a tough game, Jimbo is recruiting lights out at A&M, and I expect Mullen to improve at florida. The schedule isn't getting any easier, so we better find someone that can beat these teams.

Just curious, since YOU are giving him just this one year, what will YOU do if he does not meet them?

“ judge the program after this year “

That’s not how it works in college football or the real world. We get judged day by day and event by event. To this point in time, the judgment on LSU football is that they are barely hanging on to a top 25 position.

“giving him this year”

That you’re right, but I’m not waiting that long. I think I’ll be able to make a valid judgment on his exceptability as the LSU football coach long before this year is finished.

The Miami game is our next judgment. With where we stand nationally at the moment, I don’t know if LSU football has had a more important opening game since 2011.

I kind of liked your initial post. I love LSU, and want them to do well every year. But when your follow-up post basically said we should overlook this year and start judging O next year, you lost me at that point. I love LSU, but wasn’t sure about the Orgeron hire, but hoped he would succeed. Last year just brought more questions in my mind. Not only the debacles against Miss State and Troy, but how O responded to the adversity. If we flounder this year, and what would be one of the best recruiting classes in a long time falls apart, then I don’t think O gets a pass. I don’t like some of the dishonesty and deception I’ve seen so far, and still don’t understand why one of O’s first moves upon getting the job was to hire Derek P. to monitor the pulse of Tiger fans on social media. Don’t think that should be one of the first priorities of a head coach.

Hope the season goes well, and we surprise the hell out of the college football world, but if we don’t, O and Alleva don’t get a pass, and I want the latter to go first, because with a good AD, the former will either get the job done or be gone.

I can respect that but don’t agree with you. The narrative when Miles was fired was that anyone could win with the talent at LSU. Miles was only lucky and no matter the coach, we would win 10 games minimum every year. All we needed to do was open up the offense and LSU would be a championship team.

So far none of that has happened and personally I don’t see it happening this year. Woukd I like to see it happen? Absolutely. Right now everyone is playing the “if” game and that’s fine. But after our third loss the goal posts will be moved to getting a good bowl game and holding on to some recruits. After the fourth loss who knows what will happen.

How many lame duck years do we need before we can actually play some damn football?
