however, the DEM to my knowledge wasn't even presented as a far-Left candidate, so the only option for the far-Left was the Green candidate.
The dirty little secret in all of these close special elections is the Dem candidate ran as a very centrist, even somewhat conservative, candidate. The media definitely won't tell you that, though. These elections are close because the Dem is lying to the voters about who they are to steal independents and disgruntled conservatives.
Dems can't run as who they actually are and win and they know it.

they can, in certain races
they cannot, in races like this (or the Jones/Moore one)
i think the coordinated DEM-media message has shifted. remember after they played the moderate card with Ossof the post-loss narrative was "WE ARE LOSING BECAUSE WE'RE NOT REPRESENTING OUR VALUES!" one? after finally getting handed victory with Jones, that's softened and they're now creating the DEM/DSA dichotomy where the DEMs can be moderate (if needed) and the DSA people can float in as DEMs or outsiders
the issue is the Green party isn't in this clique and they're steaming b/c they won't get on board with the coordination
