He also once threw a 76-pitch complete game.

This is still one of the goat pitching stats and one that should be admired more, especially in today's game where soooo many pitchers are routinely injured due to over use.

That's 2.81 pitches per out lol. Absurd.

One of the most incredible stats ever. His pitch count per INNING that day

quote:

1st: 7
2nd: 11
3rd: 9
4th: 11
5th: 7
6th: 7
7th: 7
8th: 9
9th: 8

76 pitches. Yes, just 76. Of those, only 13 were balls. He had six strikeouts. Not only did Maddux not walk anyone, he didn’t get into a single three-ball count all day. He only got two balls against a hitter twice — once in the second inning against Sammy Sosa and in the seventh against Mark Grace.

He also had the quickest complete game. The game started at 7:05pm and ended at 8:50pm. 102 pitches with 13 strikeouts.
