Would you be willing to accept short term pain for long term gain?

Is that even possible anymore amongst Americans?

Does this country still have what it takes to win at anything not providing immediate gratification?

I always think this attempt at logic is comical. It's easy, for example, for someone in a state that doesn't have a Whirlpool plant to ask this question...in other words, someone who doesn't have to feel that short term pain.

I think this is the key consideration when discussing trade wars with the Chinese. I've seen people claim that China needs us more than we need them. But the fact is that the Chinese have more of a stomach for adversity than we do. So they may be more willing to hold out over an agreement than we are.
