Something has to be tried. You don't just leave your house unlocked with the thought that a thief will just bust the door down and get in. Little steps can always help mitigate the situation. Again, I never said the door badges will prevent a shooting, just lessen it. Think about if a deranged kid "only" shoots 2 or 3, instead of 15? I'm sure the family of the 10 or so that weren't shot are sure happy some preventative measures were made.

But that’s not reality though. You can spend as much as you want but it won’t solve the problem. A ton of kids leaving school when the bell rings is an easy target with lots of casualties. If a kid is dead set on doing this he will. You can’t stop that. And honestly we don’t want our schools to feel like fortresses or prisons. I’d imagine that would exacerbate mental derangement. Our schools should feel inviting and like institutions of learning. All of this defensive spending doesn’t solve the problem but costs a ton of money and instills the feeling that there’s always something to fear.
