I guess I should add my opinion that the real solution is there is no solution. If you have a deranged kid hellbent on killing, he will. We can spend lots of money trying to turn our schools into fortresses but it won’t stop it, there’s always ways. Hell, shoot em as they leave the building.
The real solution is getting these kids psychiatric help if they need it. That may stop *some*.

This. The access cards are probably great for tracking entry/exits or deterring non violent students from sneaking out of school. The system is useful- but will not prevent someone fixated on murder from executing their plans.
An angry psychopath could get a job in the cafeteria and poison hundreds of people within an hour. They could put fast-acting sedatives in the bus driver’s iced tea, plan a sniper attack outdoors, etc. Banning certain guns and turning schools into Fort Knox won’t prevent a psycho from going out in blaze of pew-pew or stab-stab outdoors.
What about firemedics and LEO confronting restricted access to emergencies in the school - isn’t that a problem? So much can go wrong even with a plan in place.
