I disagree- terrible idea.

No, you shouldn't do this- but if you make this a criminal offense, you will never get victims of crimes to report stolen firearms- which makes the overall picture even worse.

Keep the focus of punishment squarely where it belongs- on the criminal. But give the punishment some fangs.

Frick that. Should I have to keep my house doors locked at all times too? You're walking on thin ice with our rights when you go there. I'm a responsible adult. It is not my responsibility to change my behaviors because of criminals.

If you call in to report that your gun was stolen out your car you should be locked up for a week.
