Push him to be a medic.

Not sure where you are, but in North Texas most 911 services are fire based and are typically Fireman and Paramedics. Time is split taking 911 call and fire call.

It is required here to be a Fireman and to also be a Paramedic.

Pay is more and benefits are better than private service.
