There is absolutely a point. It is so you don’t repeat it.

That is all I have said. We should simply remember history, and not forget the negative parts of history simply because it was evil and paints a bad picture for our country's history.

But using history to judge how you view the present serves no purpose

That is not what I am doing here.

The USA is an amazing country to live in. Let's not act like it has always been the amazing country that it is, ok?

No one is saying that that shouldn’t be recognized.

The point being made is that celebrating the countries founding can be performed as a unique instance or view relative to the current social atmosphere.

The position held in the OP is that all progress should be disregarded and the only thing that matters is what happened in the past.

That stance is asinine.

It is possible to celebrate the country’s founding and strongly believing in its existence while being aware of the dark past that it has.

Those two topics aren’t mutually exclusive.

ETA: We may actually be in full agreement.

No one is saying forget the bad parts, but there's this stupid segment of the American population today that wants to act like the U.S. is the root of all evil that there's ever been in the world. Its like no one cares what happened before the formation of the U.S. colonies. These people think every ill of today's world can be traced back to the U.S..

Its stupid and idiotic. There were hundreds and hundreds of years of horrible societies that existed LONNGGGGG before the U.S. existed. Most societies that have existed have been ruled by despots and monarchs.

Does anyone blame anything that happened before the U.S.? Mostly no.

Does anyone of these individuals care that the U.S. has done more good in the world than any nation before it? No.

No one is dumb enough to think the U.S. has been completely perfect, but no one should be dumb enough to think its some great evil in the world either and in fact its better than almost every country thats ever existed. Humanity and especially Americans should at least appreciate what they have and they're going to regret the day its no longer there.

And lets be clear, a lot of this anti-American sentiment has been pushed forth at many American universities and its carried into some political ideologies...which even furthers peoples beliefs the U.S. is some evil force.
