I'm not a sci-fi guy per se, but I thoroughly enjoyed Scalzi's Old Man's War series...at least through book III, where I am now.
There really is a lot of:
...said Perry
...said Ann
...he said
...she said
But it's dialogue-driven plot points, so you don't notice it till you listen for it. Cool overall concept and well executed. Very logic-based sci-fi.

If you like Scalzi, then you need to read Lock In by Scalzi.

Definitely alot of that, but I didn't care. Very good comedy, really cool concepts, and a good story. I have Redshirts from Scalzi on my nightstand, but haven't cracked it yet.
