No one disagrees with this in theory, but "playing out" for a coach with a record of continuous improvement, of beating more capable teams, of not having public missteps, and actually having a history of excellence, growth and success, is different from "playing out" with a career losing head coach, with multiple public issues and perception problems, with a career of not really succeeding or even being worthy of the possibility of success, with someone who doesn't exude confidence and routinely says only what people want to hear, someone without actual results, and any positive results are actually better viewed as an opportune time to be "successful." And someone who's best skill is something he didn't perform as well at given his very next chance to succeed.

It's quite simple why the leash should be short, and playing out shouldn't be 3+ years.
