The really screwed up part of this was that the Unions were allowed to do whatever they wanted with the funds that the courts allowed to be MANDATORY drafted from the employees paychecks.

Much of that money went to Democratic candidates for office. Should have been reversed years ago.

To be fair, you could opt out of full union dues and only pay for the collective bargaining portion as a "fair share act." the theory is they get the raises so they pay for collective bargaining, but in reality that's a bunch of bullshite.

When I was a union apprentice a long time ago this wasn't MANDATORY. However, you were bullied into paying it. Myself and one journeyman at my shop refused to sign the authorization letter when it was first presented to us. The next day our local's business manager showed up at our shop and berated and threatened us with a "YOU'LL BE SORRY!!!" Then he turns to me and says "You, you're still an apprentice. I own your arse".

The shop owner heard about it and 5 minutes later the business manager was back at our shop apologizing his arse off. Not sure what was said between him and our boss but he was scared.

To this day I fricking hate unions even though I recognize they do serve a purpose in a capitalist economy. However their tactics are still slimy as frick even sans knee- capping and putting sugar in gas tanks.
