I'm not going to take up for the Bernie Bros and the suicide stuff is likely due to other factors. But, I do think there is kernel of truth to OP in the sense that a heavy debt-based infinite growth based money system seems doomed to collapse at some point. How long can interest rates stay low, the Fed keep printing, and the people/government keep taking on debt? "Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell." I don't know what the alternative is, though, other than what some of the Austrian theorists espouse.

But what's the alternative? Living in a one bedroom apartment with 9 different people? Because within this circle, that's sadly a norm:
