We stayed in a cabin on the toccoa River about 5 min from town. River is cold as shite but beautiful. The damn releases once a day and the river will start flowing like crazy and raise about 5 ft. Then it will go down hours later.
We were actually planning to go back this summer and stay on the lake but chose the beach instead.
There are plenty of houses on the lake to stay in per vrbo.
Driving around all the roads around the lake are fun.
The town is new looking and reminds me of a small Colorado ski town. There is a brewery, about 15 different places to eat at and shopping. My so was pregnant with our second child and we had our 10 month old so we didn't get to do the trails to see all the waterfalls. They have a train ride to McCaysville that is badass through the mountains running along the river.
Its just incredible place if ur looking for the mountains with different things to do. I would stay on the lake because you can swim and the water is not cold as shite.
If you stay on the river below the damn near elijay (sp), water is not cold but also not as clear as the Toccoa.
Just look up places to eat at and things to do and you will easily fill daily itenirary.

Look at the sticky thread by Houston and click Asheville. I posted some pics from BR.

Thanks. Have informed the family of my wishes for this will be our destination in Summer 2019. May even make it an extended family trip with my cousin and his kids.
Appreciate the feedback. Looking forward to some clean air, and R & R.
