You mean it felt like two different plots or you mean there was a seamless transition from the first movie and it felt like just a continuance if that story?

To me it felt like the first act relied too heavily on contrived plot devices, but the second and third acts were clinics on suspense and payoff. I actually prefer it to its predecessor.

The first act was everything you expect from a JP movie, which by and large was a good thing. The second half was almost horror movie-like in tone and suspense and was far stronger, IMO. That's not to say it was gory, it was just a nice change of pace from the "Ooh," "Aah" in the Hawaiian unit.
