Is alimony an outdated concept with the amount of women working now?

You hear way too often of working men brought down to nothing because an entitled wife leaves the marriage and wants to bleed the husband out.

The concept of alimony has little to do with women in the workforce. Even women with jobs are eligible for alimony in many circumstances.

Men still need parental choice rights the same as women have.

Absolutely.
We hear all the feminist stuff about women and equal pay/employment. But then as soon as divorce comes up, those same feminists are quick to say the ex-husband should be paying alimony. If women and men are to be considered equals in the workforce, then they should be considered equals when it comes to being able to provide for themselves post-divorce.
ETA: The only time I see justification for alimony is on a temporary basis in cases where the wife quit working to be a stay-at-home mom and at the time of splitting with husband, she's unable to find employment at the same career/salary level she was at prior to quitting.

In this case society probably benefits from the current setup, but it’s far from equal rights.

I know a dude that got alimony. He lost his job and she divorced him not too long afterwards. He hired a good attorney though.

Problem in SC is there a legal presumption in favor of permanent, periodic alimony, especially for marriages over 10 years.

Not yet. Just now starting to see cases where women are paying the men alimony (manimony?). Women want to be all equal then they need a few decades of paying their share.

Maybe. But if the husband decides to trade in the wife for a younger faster model at work I say stick it to him. In that case alimony is justified.

I had a very high paying career that I walked away from - by mutual agreement - when we brought our infant son home from Russia. In those 10 years, my husband’s career has advanced greatly. Some of that advancement was made possible by having a partner who stayed ho,e and allowed him to work 15 hour days and travel a great deal knowing his son and home was cared for. Later, I helped woo investors and their wives and have been told many times what an asset I was to his company.
In that same 10 years, my career field - Risk Management and Executive HR - has changed drastically making me no longer qualified for my previous career. If, God forbid, my husband and I divorced, I would definitely need alimony for a few years while I regained certifications and re-entered the workforce.

Yes. Alimony is not gender-specific.

Women sometimes have to pay men nowadays after divorce. They get pretty salty about it.
