I don't understand why these theater chains have to have an "answer" to what Movie Pass is doing (I admit that I did not read the article, so if this is answered there, then, well, I'm sorry).
These theaters are getting paid for each ticket the same as they would if a patron was paying them directly, right? MoviePass is the entity that is taking the financial hit when someone decides to go to a movie. The theaters get paid regardless, and they are getting people in the venue to buy concessions.
Is my understanding wrong? It seems that AMC is only hurting themselves by offering this.

The theaters see MoviePass as devaluing their product. They'e selling tickets for $10 to $15 and MoviePass lets you see their films for as low as $.32 (if you saw a movie every day for their monthly $9.95). It's an image thing for them.

Most subscription programs are under the hope that people forget they subscribed to them.
