Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like the timeline from extraction to consumption is a lot faster for oil than it is for lumber.

This. Plus there is a exchange traded global market for oil. I do not believe this exists for lumber.

I would also guess the dollar spent on oil is several OMs of lumber.
