worst? Pretty sure statistics show otherwise. And if you're not armed, depending in the state, the sentence isn't that bad.

I think the idea is that your haul is not going to be relatively that much. From the non-violent financial fraud side of things you can make away with hundreds of thousands+ or even millions. Pretty sure the statistics show that to be the much bigger loss of money to the economy than simple theft like robbing a bank. Also, non-violent crimes like that tend to get handled much less harshly. You have dudes out there that defrauded and stole tens of millions of dollars who only go to jail for a handful of years. Your drug addict robbing a bank for a couple thousand dollars can get the next 10 locked up.
