Just FYI, a pool liner replacement runs around $2K. I actually have a buddy who does regular rectangular pool liner replacements for around $1500.
Liners should last around 8-10 years with decent care. So, if you’re expecting to have/use the pool for around 25 years, your TCO with a liner is only going to be around $3k-$4k additional.
We looked at those numbers versus initial cost of a fiberglass pool and went with the liner. I’d prefer the fiberglass, but from a cost perspective, the liner was more economical for our anticipated window of use (i.e., our kids from age 5 to 25).

I've had a fiberglass for over 10 years, and a vinyl liner before that. Fiberglass is the way to go. Super easy to care for, no real issues other than replace a pump motor. 10 years ago, my cost was $30K. I have no idea what they cost now.

Absolutely no need for a deep end
A true deep end isn't used all that much these days... a sport pool that is 3'6"-4' on outsides and 5-5'6" in the middle would be used so much more especially if you have kids and you can still put a slide in. The sport pool with a basketball hoop and volleyball net get tons of use. Throw in a shallow lounge pad and its the best of both worlds. We had to go with vinyl liner due to the water table being too high and contractor said their was risk of it "popping" out of the ground if we drew the water down too much for cleaning/repair. Cost wasn't that much different but I do like the color choices for the liner as opposed to fiberglass however we did have to replace the liner in year 7 which all of a sudden starts making it more expensive than fiberglass.

Fiberglass can be just as expensive as gunite, but is well worth it. I had a Viking pool and it was bulletproof. Match that with a saltwater system, and it will be a piece of cake to maintain.
I suggest picking a lighter color for your pool. I had a light blue color and it looked great. My neighbor got one with a darker blue bottom and wasn’t near a pretty imo.
I’ll be installing a fiberglass one next spring at my new house.

I’m torn. I want the low maintenance and easier to keep clean advantages of fiberglass.
But I just love the look, feel, and customization options of gunite.
I will be putting one in the next year but can’t fully commit to either.

Did pool construction in the summers through college and would agree, fiberglass is the best quality of the choices but as others have said, it can be pricey when installing.
Aside from pool type, I highly recommend getting a salt water system; makes it much easier and cheaper to keep the pool clean and is better for people that have really sensitive skin (aka pusses). Again, a little more money up-front but worth it.
There are some Hayward salt systems that run around $400-$500 that do just as good as the $800 systems. Don’t even consider Intex stuff, there’s a reason they are so cheap.

No doubt about the customization of gunite, but there is a ton of fiberglass options you may like too. Just find out what kind your builder sells. There are some companies that will do custom builds, but I’m sure it won’t come cheap. Either way, good luck ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)
