I’ve been under fire numerous times. I was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze with a “V”. I used to not talk about it much but now I’m an open book for the most part some stuff I’ve only ever told my shrink and it’ll stay that way.

If I ever were, I didn't notice it at the time. To me, I figured that those rounds cracking around my head were aimed at the other guy, not me.

My dad was an officer during Vietnam and he has only spoken of it once. He told me how his platoon came across an area of brush. He radio in and was told to sweep it.
4 of his men died and he told me he should have just moved along and ignored orders. I think he still carries the guilt to this day.
The horrors of war is not something most normal people want to discuss or remember imo.
