DMB without Boyd

Watching the live show on YouTube now LINK
and noticed that Boyd wasn’t playing with them tonight. Had no idea he left the band because of sexual harassment ( LINK). It really shows the lack of depth without him playing. Certain songs miss their best qualities.
Hopefully he makes it back on stage with them.

I am a Buddy Strong fan. Yes certain songs that were violin heavy will always be missing something. But they got better when they added keys once again

Meh. Boyd has been pretty terrible for a while. He’s had physical conditions and could barely hold his bow.

I just watched the entire SPAC night 2 show on Youtube from 7/14. Amazing.DMB is streaming certain live shows, with DVD quality audio and cameras. What an incredible show. A few observations:
-Because Ive been listening to them for so long, there were certain sections of tunes where I was just conditioned to hearing Boyd, but didnt feel like there was a glaring hole there.
-Carter seems to have slowed down a bit, I understand he is 60 years old. As far as chops and crazy stuff, he doesnt appear to be doing as much as he used to. But as far as pure groove and especially conversing with other musicians during solos, he is still quick as a whip, and a world class drummer.
-Buddy Strong is INCREDIBLE. Period. He brings such a level of texture and musicality that has lacked since the departure of Butch Taylor almost 10 years ago. It is obvious that the band loves having him on stage, and in a short period of time he seems to have gotten over with the crowds, a tall ask considering he was essentially replacing a founding member of the group.
The band seems refreshed and rejuvenated and as always seems to be having a great time playing with on another.
