So I suppose Stevie Gaines was a better guitarist than Prince? This shite is about to get good.
I bet you were once a huge fan of Donovan Mcnabb.... you know that guy that was an OK quarterback, but to some he was better than Joe Montana because of a certain quality(similar to geauxbrown). IRL Prince and Mr Mcnabb are very similar.

If you're comparing McNabb's 2000 to 2004 career with Prince during the 1999/Purple Rain era, then I can, maybe, see it.
If you're saying both are "puffed up" because they are wrongly "colored" (<-FFS, can I even say that?) for their respective position (QB and guitarist) - then I would have to call bullshite on both.
In fact, I take the somewhat unique position that McNabb probably did face a prejudiced (not racist) "vision test" AND Rush Limbaugh was right about the sports media being very "desirious" of a black QB doing well for SJW reasons.
Just like I can say that Clapton was simultaneously great and overrated, I can say McNabb was both a great QB and, at least at the time, was overrated.
But, I can't say that (overrated) about Prince - he wasn't the only giant talent in pop music of that era - look no further than his chief rival - MJ. So, that tells you right there he wasn't competing with the EVHs of the world (although both are virtuoso's on keys and guitar) - Prince mastered 19 instruments by age 19. He was a profligate songwriter who wrote/produced/developed for other talent as well as for himself and his own band. He was strange as all get out, but that's not unusual for talent at that level.
And he was a great guitarist. Full stop. Not "for a pop guy." Not "for a black guy not named Berry, King or Hendrix." Just great, period.
