Don't know why they would have to rename them... theoretically they could all pool together to keep funding the same as it is now as well. Even if funding was to be split up they wouldn't have to change names.

I disagree Completely. For example, UC Riverside wouldn't be in the state of California then. What if the new state of Southern California funds their universities differently than the state of California does? Why would the state allow it to be connected to the state of California of which it just separated from? Also, why would you want to be called California, if you aren't even in the state of California? Makes no sense. Wouldn't you want to represent the state of Northern California instead?
