We built a new house and the downstairs unit has 3 zones.

Kitchen
Living Room/Spare bedroom
Master Suite

I keep my bedroom on 71 at night and the rest of the house at 75. Then my bedroom is 75 during the day.

This is the way to go. If I ever have the opportunity to build, I'm going with zones, likely ductless mini-splits so that one condensing unit going down doesn't take out the whole house.

Multi-zone air conditioning is more expensive than single zone, but it's a huge quality of life improvement when everyone in the house can set their own room to their own temperature.
