I think we both know if the University starts paying for one parent, everyone else is going to jump on that train and then you will have many who are wanting the same. You do one hand out, you do many.
Not sure what you're talking about with universities paying parents.

Then I will take the exposure playing for a university gave me and go and make my money, money that will set me up for life.
What if you were an all time star and made your university millions but you're not good enough to go pro, how are you setting yourself up for life, exactly?

If they pay them, then they should make them pay like any other college student. Seems fair
It isn't even that they should pay them, it is that they should be allowed to make money on their likeness however they see fit because the days of amateur athletics went out the window years and years ago.

I honestly feel like if "our side" stuck just to this argument, it would gain steam and come to fruition

But I think our logic gets lost on deaf ears because it gets drowned out by the "modern day slavery" and "denied basic rights" headlines

Well, assuming you spent at least four years at you college, you've earned around 90 credit hours and should have no school debts. If you haven't earned your degree by now, you're in a great position to do so. If you have to take a loan or work a scrappy job for a year to pay for any remaining time in college, then welcome to how the other 98% of students lived.
