How competitive is ncaa track and field? Not all top 10 finishes are made the same in collegiate sports.

Believe it or not, there is a lot more parity these days. Track and field has become much more popular over the years.

I don't have a dog in this fight, I just want LSU athletics to be successful

I think we are spoiled with what we experienced before with Pat Henry. That type of success is not realistic today its not. Kind of like Bertman's run with the baseball team in the 90's is not realistic these days in college sports its not

College Athletics has so much more parity these days than it did a decade or two ago. For all sports!!!!

Is Shaver the best coach out there? Probably not but he field consistent top 10 teams every year and is a good coach. Today's track and field program may be a step down compared to some of Henry's teams in the past but they are still very good.

Not saying there shouldn't be accountability or improvements within the program but this thread makes this sound like we aren't even competitive or respected nationally which simply isn't true

Of the sports that need accountability and changes on campus, this isn't one of them

The women hoops program is the place to probably start

A few thoughts.

One major aspect that is often overlooked. LSUs jumping team and the lack of coach Boo.(next part is opinion) Boo respected Henry. I don't think he(Boo)walked away because he was over looked for the head coach position. I think it had to do a lot more with how he respected and was respected by Henry and how that was not the case with Shaver.(again this is opinion though I have heard some specific incidences) While I think Lane(new jump coach) has done well, Boo was at his peak and set the bar for jumps coaching.

Pat Henry has won 9 more national championships since going to Texas a&m, 5 men's and 4 women's.Most recently In 2017. Also worth noting he's had 19 other top 5 finishes. A&M was barely on the map prior to Henry.

Bertmans fault Henry is gone.
