On a scale of 1-10, how much of a con artist is Damien Commoli?

If Bernie Madoff is a 10...
Rumors are that he will be coming to Fenerbahce under the new chairman.

He'll get some good players, but he will also get some duds. I don't know if that makes him a con-man or just overhyped. I guess the shine wore off after Liverpool.

On the one hand....
He got Luis Suarez.
On the other, he offered twice what Sunderland was willing to accept for Jordan Henderson.
I think he gets a bit of a bad rep from his Liverpool time due to the owners wanting the metrics to dictate things. But one thing seemed to always be his problem - overpaying for some guys that just weren't that good.
I don't think he's a con artist, but nor is he any good. I wouldn't want him wasting my team's money, if that means anything.

Where did all of this hype around him come from? What did he do that was so amazing that got him the main gig at Tottenham? I mean, he definitely played the "I discovered Bale and Modric" thing to get the Liverpool gig, and I can see how Henry and co fell for that, but what did he do before that?
I just don't see the appeal in him. It's not that hard to make 2-3 great transfers and 5-7 duds every year when you have a top 5-10 global budget.

He discovered a bunch of Arsenal players in the late nineties/early noughties. That pretty much propelled him to other jobs.

He’s obviously fallen off in favor if he is having to resort to going to turkey

I don't think he's had a job since Liverpool. But he was fired from his last two gigs (St. Etienne and Liverpool).
Fenerbahce will be an interesting team to watch though. There are two families in Turkey that are extremely wealthy. The Sabanci family is worth 20+ Billion and the Koc family is worth about $8 billion. The eldest son of the third generation of the Koc family was just elected chairman of Fenerbahce. He is supposed to be analytically-minded (by billionaire scion standards) and mentally stable, so that's good. I think there will be some big name signings in the front office (coaches, scouts, technical directors, etc) soon, instead of just going for 32-year olds who have big names like van Persie.

I lost track of Giuliano when he went to Fenerbahce but he scored a lot of goals. Wasn't given much time at Zenit.

The current team has no strategic vision. It's just a collection of players who were bought at decent prices and kind of fit positional need.
Soldado, Isla, Vincent Janssen, Luis Neto, Neustadter, Valbuena, and Skrtel. All fairly famous but all past their peak.
Giuliano is one of the best players on the team though.
