re: Rule by Monarchy or Meritocracy: An Observation

Many of the ridiculousness that we see play out today is a symptom of just how successful and prosperous our country is. In America one can put in relatively low effort and maintain a quality of life far beyond our ancestors could have imagined. Think about it, our poor people are fat. When in the entirety of human history has that been the case? As a result the massive drive and energy to survive which evolved in the past gets diverted elsewhere. That takes the form of histrionic political activism (on both sides), celebrity worship, sports fanaticism, etc. I highly doubt people actually want a monarchy but you do have a point that we take for granted just how damn good we all have it here and now.
