You will never be forgotten!

This is the day to honor "Those who made the Ultimate Sacrifice!"

Rest in peace my brothers.

One of the most sad times in my life was walking on/off/thru a c-17 to say goodbye to friends on an angel flight.

These are just a few of my brothers & why I honor Memorial Day:

My TBS classmate Maj Aubin

Capt Michael “Johnny” Spann

Every month I learn of other guys I went to school with or served with that are no longer with us.

According to members of a German television crew who were later trapped in the fort with Dave, Spann asked the prisoners who they were and why they joined the Taliban. They massed around him. 'Why are you here?' Spann asked one. 'To kill you,' came the reply as the man lunged at Spann's neck. Spann drew his pistol and shot the man dead. Dave shot another, then grabbed an AK-47 from an Alliance guard and opened fire. According to eyewitness accounts given to the German team, the Taliban fighters launched themselves at Spann, scrabbling at his flesh with their hands, kicking and beating him. Spann killed seven more with his pistol before he disappeared under the crush.[5]

He was a good guy. We served together and knew how he had been killed in Afghanistan with the overt arm of the CIA. I recently was flying and picked up a book (12 Strong) at an airport kiosk and didn’t know he was in it.

Then this morning I was sort of watching the news and saw a picture of Aubin and had to rewind the segement. I hadn’t realized he died in a crash.

I spent a month at Dover doing SF work with the Night Riders. I had the fortune or misfortune of participating in a number of Angel flights that I can say without a doubt was both the best and worst job I ever had. Your uniform could never be pressed enough, salute never proper enough, or position of attention sharp enough to honor their sacrifice. It’s a humbling experience without a doubt.

I "wear blue: run to remember" (just google it y'all) for a graduate of my high school. He graduated several years after me and from my understanding was the last casualty for the US in Iraq.

His mother has expressed to me how much it meant to her to meet those who escorted him home and who helped his family through the funeral, etc.
