Because she was unable to shut her mouth. The new thing with cops is wanting to bend people's will and force respect. Had she been courteous and tried to keep her mouth shut she would have been harassed a little, then let go.
They are going to settle for about $350k. The lawyer will get about 45%.

What she blew is moot.
As a minor it is against the law to possess alcohol....provising the officer with cause to detain and arrrest.
Chances are had she kept her mouth shut she would have got off with a warning.
