I didn’t dislike the game, but someone help me out here

At the start of the game you are shown footage that is documentary style of Pastor Jerome, Nick, and the bartender in Holland Valley talking about the rise of the cult and how scary the situation in Hope Valley was (in past tense, as though you were about to play through the story they are about to tell)

if there are three nuclear bombs dropped in rural Montana and the world is plunged into nuclear war (all of which is pretty ludicrous to me. I mean of what strategical advantage is nuking a small town in Montana going to get you and where are our missile defense systems?), I doubt anyone is surviving that shite much less giving an interview about a cult instead of an interview in how to survive three nuclear bombs and the nuclear winter that would follow.

There are other suspension of disbelief moments like “why don’t you just leave” that I’m willing to overlook, but this one seems egregiously bad. Am I just missing something or misremembering how the intro was set up?

The nukes were stored there. They weren’t launched from some other country. And the “strategic advantage” is uhhh.... starting the apocalypse?

Your proposal is that those recordings took place before the events of the game? Nick specifically mentions how scary it was without a government presence to defend the people and it is stated that for the most part Eden’s Gate left mostly to themselves before the first mission of the game, so at the very least I’d say that is a counterintuitive notion.

Yeah man that is not correct. Listen to the radio before the last mission, the news specifically says North Korea has bombed Russia and WW3 is on the horizon as the Middle East has destabilized at the same time. It’s widely accepted and at the very least implied that it was a foreign nation that bombed us at the end of the story to take out our missile silos in Montana.

Does not equate to Russia or the norks using nukes on a random county with no true value. The cult blew themselves up.

Makes a lot more sense than the recordings happening post nuclear apocalypse, no?

Let’s see. Seed wants the end of the world. Sees that the world is barreling towards nuclear war. He wants nuclear war. He detonates the nukes in bumfrick hope county.

Now America has been nuked and sends retaliation strikes toward those believed to have launched nukes.

Boom now we’re all dead due to the nuclear war that was being pushed throughout the story that was triggered by the self detonation of the nukes in hope county by the cult.

You guys realize the military likely had nuke silos in Hope County? I mean look at the installation that John Seed was operating from. I haven't played since launch but I'm pretty sure there's a silo right there if you happened to explore outside the compound. They were even likely decomissioned but who's gonna update the news to everyone? It wouldn't be unheard of for China or Russia to target them if a WW broke out
