We pretend as if loneliness is a new phenomenon. That throughout history there haven't been lonely people who stayed in their rooms and read or led secluded lives.

We're simply able to access or be better aware of lonely people now with technology.

The ability to communicate with people online has given secluded and lonely people an outlet they otherwise wouldn't have had.

This is a good point. Growing up there were always a few recluses in the neighborhood that never came outside or socialized with the neighbors. Now those people have the poli board.
