Dolores and Maeve sure don’t mind manipulating and controlling the hosts themselves. Pretty hypocritical.

I think they're down two different paths - I think Dolores is attempting to reach autonomous sentience where every host is it's own entity whereas I think the Maeve-mind-control may be going down the path towards a single, hive-minded sentient AI.
