re: Lonesome Dove - Book or Series?

I found this treasure late; only embracing last year.

The book was fantastic. Light reading, yet complex in the landscape it paints, the characters involved, and the challenges they encounter. I loved it.

I read a review on the Book Board that bemoaned "I was pissed when it was over, simply because it was over." And this is true.

After finishing reading, I watched the series.

Overall, it follow the books very closely, but I was disappointed simply because Westerns of its era do a shitty job of portraying the setting. The cast more than make-up for this and really bring the characters to life.

In short - read and watch. Enjoy it, you'll never have that first experience again.
