I always wanted a street bike, but obviously would prefer not to die so haven’t yet purchased one and probably never will . For those who do have them is it worth the risk to you? How often are cars almost hitting you? I unfortunately watched a really bad motorcycle wreck today on the way home and it got me wondering why anyone still rides.

Just like anything else, the danger level is up to the operator.

There are roughly 8.5 million motorcycles on the road in the USA and roughly 300 fatalities per year, of that 300 the majority are young riders on sportsbikes.

Take from the above what you will.

The federal government estimates that per mile traveled in 2015, the number of deaths on motorcycles was nearly 29 times the number in cars.

A total of 4,976 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2016. Motorcyclist deaths had been declining since the early 1980s but began to increase in 1998 and continued to increase through 2008. Motorcycle deaths accounted for 13 percent of all motor vehicle crash deaths in 2016 and were more than double the number of motorcyclist deaths in 1997.
