Words mean things. If you aren't in the military, you aren't serving.
We have to pretend that spouses (women) are doing something heroic if their husbands are doing something heroic. We have to make women feel good about themselves even when they've done nothing. In this society we treat women like children.
The inverse however, isn't true. Because I don't care about Harriet Tubman's husband. He wasn't a hero, she was.

I agree.
When a parent chooses to stay at home and raise children, they are not a hero to society - they are a hero to those children.
No validation outside the home is required.
I thank my wife everyday for raising our kids and I constantly remind them to do the same. This weekend will be all about mom in a big way.
But that has nothing to do with the rest of America.
