Officiated high school football on the coast for 20 years, and they are also bad on football fields in September. We would tear a Bounce fabric softener sheet into small strips, and tuck them in our socks. Rubbed them on our exposed skin as well, and that worked great. Not as oily as the skin so soft.

Use brewers yeast on your food like parmesan cheese. It will make a scent that repels them. Fresh garlic on everything, too.

Seriously, does anyone else get big welps from these things?
I do. Much worse than mosquitoes.

yes, big welps and they are itchier than mosquito bites.

Don't know if already posted but vanilla extract rubbed on exposed skin will keep them off. Guaranteed. They'll still swarm you a bit but they won't bite.

Does it have to be the extract or just a vanilla scent?

extract
Extract for guaranteed results. It's all I ever used. Be sure and wipe it everywhere, ears, forehead, anything not covered. Also, leave the cologne's alone. They love that shite.
They'll disappear as soon as the days get hot and the nights get warmer. More than likely, they'll show back up in the fall when it goes to cooling off.

Does anyone know if the Dynatrap will work on these critters?
