I thought “in god we trust” and “one nation under god” wasn’t added until like the 50s?

Kind of like a lot of these civil war statues not being errrected until the 50’s during the height of the civil rights movement....

It was put on coins as early as 1864

Most of the Civil War statues were erected in the first two decades of the twentieth century, though there certainly WERE a few erected as recently as the later part of the Civil Rights Era.

"One Nation" has always been a part of the official pledge. "Under God" was added in 1954, to differentiate us from those "Godless Communists" in Russia.

"In God we Trust" was made the national motto in 1956 for the same reason, though it was used sporadically for a century before that time.

Many of those statues were erected in the 1880's through the 1920's. The majority were not erected in the 50's.
