They didn't immediately blow up their entire roster. They initially only lost West, Ilgauskas and O'neal in addition to LeBron. They played 30+ games with 7 of their top 11 players from the previous season and were losing games by 9+ points on average, on pace for being one of the worst teams ever even before the remainder of the roster was deconstructed.

What do you think would have happened to the Bulls if if the top two players had left? Or even Jordan and the third best player?
