Reportedly this problem comes from them using coils constructed of both aluminum and copper.

The areas that the differing metals meet has given them leaking issues.

The issue came from using an epoxy for the weld (copper to aluminum.) The epoxy weld would break down causing the leaks. They weren't the only OEM to try it with epoxy and have major issues. I build 100's of thousands of aluminum coils however we use a true brazing weld for ours. It's more work but you avoid the leak issues. Our preference is copper coils....better longevity, better performance, not as prone to damage and less field issues.

Goodman and Amana are both owned by the Japanese conglomerate Daiken.

The Goodman name (probably Amana, too) will be going bye-bye. They want to rule the earth with the Daiken name.

FYI...last week at old "cooling side" manufacturing plant of Goodman's.:

Their old furnace plant. Currently still building product but will close this summer:

Another shot of the closing Goodman cooling side plant:

Here's a huge auto welder we're buying from them. If you have a Goodman evap coil in your house there's a good chance the u-bends were welded on this machine. We're buying a lot of their presses, welders, tanks, etc....
